What are heatless curls?

Heatless curls are a style of curls that you can create without using any heat styling tools. They offer a safe and gentle way to achieve curly hair without the risk of heat damage. You can try experimenting with methods to find the one that suits your hair type and desired style.

How do heatless curls work?

Heatless curls work by using the natural properties of wet or damp hair. When your hair is wet or damp, the hydrogen bonds within the hair are weakened, allowing it to be easily shaped into curls. As the hair dries, the hydrogen bonds reform, locking the shape you created.

In contrast, heat styling tools use heat to break down the hydrogen bonds in the hair, making it more flexible and allowing you to mould it into a desired style. However, this process can be damaging to the hair over time.

Can heatless curls damage your hair?

Heatless curls work by manipulating damp hair into curls and allowing them to set without using any heat styling tools. The curls are created without breaking the hydrogen bonds in the hair, which can help prevent damage to the hair.

While heatless curls may not last as long as those created with heat styling tools, they are a safe and effective way to achieve curly hair without heat damage.

Wet or dry hair for heatless curls?

We recommend using washed, full air dried hair. Hair holds moisture up to 2 hours after washing and drying, making it easier to style. In this condition, it may also leave indents on your hair ends so wrap the scrunchie around them once only and secure the scrunchie with 1-2 additional loops further down the curler.

If you don't have time to wash your hair or simply don't feel like it, you can apply a leave-in conditioner or styling mousse that's tailored to your hair type. Alternatively, you can mist your hair with water, though this isn't recommended if you have naturally frizzy, wavy or curly hair.

Can heatless curls work in 1 or 2 hours?

Heatless curls can work in 1-2 hours but the results won't be as defined and long lasting as those achieved by leaving the curler overnight. If you're short on time, use a styling mousse designed for your hair type before wrapping your hair.

How long do you leave heatless curlers in dry hair?

For the best curls leave the heatless curler in dry hair overnight. This overnight technique ensures your curls set perfectly, giving you a long-lasting style since it will have a long time to set. Just wrap your hair, hit the hay, and wake up to beautiful curls. It's simple, easy, and gentle way to achieve stunning curls.

Heatless curls instructions with images and steps

1. Divide your hair into two sections. Place the Silkre heatless hair curler at the top of your head and secure it with a clip.

2. Starting at the front of your face, take a small section of hair and wrap it around the curler. Then, incorporate a section from the back and wrap it under the curler. Next, take a section from the front again, combine it with the current section, and wrap it over the curler. Repeat this process until all of your hair is wrapped around the curler, securing the ends with a silk scrunchie.

3. Allow your hair to dry naturally. For best results, leave it for 3-5 hours or overnight.

4. To add a glossy look, apply your favourite hair oil. Alternatively, you can use hairspray to help the curls hold longer.

5. Experiment with different wrapping techniques and section sizes to achieve various looks.

Tips and tricks for heatless curls

If your curls look a tad wild brush them out and add your favourite hair oil and wrap it again to reset the curls for 15-30 minutes to achieve your desired look.

Wrap your hair tightly around the heatless hair curler for the best results.

Don't let the curler twist as you wrap your hair, the curler needs to stay still the best it can to stop your hair from unravelling once you tie off the scrunchie.

For thick hair, wrap each section around the curler twice before grabbing a new section.

For heatless waves, twist each hair section before wrapping it around the curler.

For tight heatless curls, use small sections.

For loose heatless curls, use bigger sections.

When were claw clips invented?

Christian Potut came up with a brilliant idea in 1989 to create the iconic claw clip that is suitable for all hair types and textures.

Christian recalls the moment of inspiration, saying, "One day I kept crossing and uncrossing my fingers. And that's when I had my lightbulb moment. I said to myself: 'I sell combs and clips, why don't I combine the two?'" This innovative idea led to the creation of the claw clip.

The claw clip has truly stood the test of time and remains a staple accessory even after 30 years.

Are claw clips damaging to hair?

Absolutely not! Claw clips offer a much healthier option for your hair compared to hair elastics, which often tug and snag on the hair. Claw clips are gentle on the hair, unlike plastic hair elastics that's why this 90's hair accessory is making a comeback and for good reason.

Claw clips is a safe alternative or putting your hair up without the risk of damaging it. Beyond their protective benefits, they offer endless styling possibilities. From classic half-up styles to sleek updos, playful space buns, or voluminous messy buns, the versatility of claw clips knows no bounds. They're an absolute essential for any hair accessory collection.

Is it OK to wear a claw clip to bed?

Sleeping with your hair in a claw clip isn't recommended, even though our clips are designed for comfort. It's best to remove them before bedtime.

To maintain healthy hair, we suggest you sleep in a moisturising hair mask overnight for extra hydration. We also recommend avoid sleeping with wet hair because our hair is more sensitive to damage and fragile when wet. A protective hairstyle while sleeping is a loose plait, secure it with a silk scrunchie to avoid damage.

Why does my claw clip fall out?

When selecting a claw clip, it's important to consider both its size and shape. If the clip is too small, it won't be able to secure all your hair properly, while a clip that's too big may feel loose and prone to slipping.

Also, pay attention to the clip's shape, as it plays a key role in how well it fits to the contours of your head.

Is putting your hair in a claw clip good?

Claw clips are a popular hair accessory known for their versatility and ease of use, allowing us to create a variety of hairstyles effortlessly. Many people rely on them as their go-to accessory for daily styling. But is it safe to wear a claw clip every day? The answer is yes, provided you choose a non-damaging option.

Unlike plastic hair ties, which can cause breakage and split ends, our Esse claw clips are handcrafted from sustainable cellulose acetate. This material is both strong and flexible, with polished edges that glide smoothly through your hair without causing damage.

Are claw clips classy?

Absolutely! Not only are claw clips chic and elevate any outfit, but they are a hair-friendly alterative to elastic bands. Unlike elastic bands, which can cause breakage due to excessive tension on the hair, claw clips provide a gentler hold.
